Using passive mode will not work since there is no way for the server to send the dynamic IP information to the client?.Good tutorial or guide to set this up! Please excuse me if this is "motherhood" but I simply can not find a solution for it! I would think that this is a common scenario to establish a FTP server behind a NAT with Dynamic IP but after several days of searching on the internet I can not find any Works well both from the LAN and from the WAN. I first set up the FTP server with no encryption just plain FTP with access though a defined external port which was forwarded to 21 on the server. I am in the process of implementing a new web site or rather portal, VPN access and a FTP server. Of users both local and external and to give access to documents and other type of data. The Server 2016 provides AD and DNS on the LAN and is used to manage a very limited number The external IP is dynamic and I use DYNDNS to link it to my domain. #You appear to be behind a nat router filezilla windowsThe FTP client uses the primary IP address of the FTP server for data connections.I have a windows Server 2016 located behind a external NAT (Asus Router RT AC-88-U with Merlin FW). ![]() In the extended passive mode, there's no IP address in the response. The last option is to use the extended passive mode ( EPSV), if your clients allow that. And you should not use unencrypted connections! Though the translation will work for unencrypted connection only anyway. To allow both LAN and WAN connections, check if the NAT can be configured to translate the IP address for the non standard ports too. Though the change will break the LAN-LAN connections. And the client obviously cannot connect to the IP address.Īnd have the NAT forward the ports in the passive port range (50000-51000). Go to Edit > Settings > Passive mode settings > IPv4 specific > External Server IP Address for passive mode transfers.Ĭurrently your FTP server is sending its internal IP address to the client. You should tell the FileZilla FTP server its external IP address. But it likely does that only for the standard FTP port. ![]() My guess is that the configuration #1 works only because the NAT is smart enough to translate the IP address in the PASV response from the server. Note: both the case working in LAN-LAN network. the client can connect and login is successfull but ends with the error message at server side like this without any directory listing. Not working with Passive mode configuration by client. This is working only if client is set to Active mode. Windows firewall inboud rule port allow port: 2000, 50000-51000 This is working if client is trying to connect using Active/Passive modeĬonfiguration #2 Filezilla FTP server port: 2000 Windows firewall inboud rule port allow port: 21, 50000-51000 #You appear to be behind a nat router filezilla windows 7Note: i have added the custom inbound rule in the windows 7 firewallĬonfiguration #1 Filezilla FTP server port: 21 the 1st is working and the 2nd is not (in Passive mode). I have 2 cases here as per below configurations. i am trying to access the FTP server from the network outside of the router using Router WAN ip (WAN-to-LAN) by adding Port-Forwarding rule (NAT) in the router. #You appear to be behind a nat router filezilla PcI am running FILE-Zilla ftp server on windows in one of the LAN pc connect to my router. ![]()
